FSG 53 Hardware and Abrasives

The first two digits of the National Stock Number are the numbers that identify the Federal Supply Group. The number 53 at the beginning of the 13-digit national stock number represents any parts under the category of hardware and abrasives. Hardware is defined as all tools, machinery, and other durable equipment. Abrasives are defined as any product capable of polishing or cleaning a solid surface by rubbing or grinding.
