FSG 42 Firefighting Rescue and Safety Equipment and Environmental Protection Equipment and Materials

Federal supply group 42 is for firefighting, rescue, and safety equipment; and environmental protection equipment and materials. This group has procurement needs in all branches of the military, coast guard, and public safety realm. Some examples of equipment in this group are: fire extinguishers, rescue nets, life vests, spill containment systems, portable fire escapes, and material reclamation equipment.

The federal supply group is further broken down into the following federal supply classes:

• FSC 4210 Fire Fighting Equipment
• FSC 4220 Marine Lifesaving and Diving Equipment
• FSC 4230 Decontaminating and Impregnating Equipment
• FSC 4235 Hazardous Material Spill Containment and Clean up Equipment and Material
• FSC 4240 Safety and Rescue Equipment
• FSC 4250 Recycling and Reclamation Equipment

It excludes wrecking bars, lifesaving boats, divers suits, and fixed fire escapes. Equipment in this group is often procured in large quantities. They are not necessarily very expensive per unit but due to the number of units needed, (such as life vests for every seat of an airplane) procurement needs can build up. However equipment in decontamination is rather rare and only needed for military and research.
